- TachdriverExplorerI run traffic speed MINUS 2 to 5 MPH less with a max speed of 65. If the right lane is congested with on/off rampers I move to the next left lane.
My observation is that I like to run a speed where I do not need to overtake traffic unless necessary keeping the lane in front fairly open.
Probably need to find out where you the most comfortable while maintaining safety. - HybridhunterExplorer

Why?
I'm a little surprised at the above post.
Go slow if you want, but stay out of the way at least. It's not just common courtesy, it's the law. And avoids this... - GdetrailerExplorer III

"Why" you ask, Because guys like me that drive between 75 and 85 mph don't like to slow down and maneuver around moving road blocks. I'll hang on their tail for a few miles and if still don't move over to right lane, I'll flash my high beams, if still stay in left lane, I give up and maneuver around.
FWIW I consider people that drive in the left lane at the speed limit or don't keep up with traffic speeds, no matter the posted speed limit.... rude.
Driving in any other lane than the RIGHT most lane(s) is not only RUDE, it is a hazard, creates unnecessary bottle necks in traffic, overall obstructs the flow of traffic and in MANY STATES is illegal to do so if you are not OVERTAKING and or PASSING slower traffic.
PA a few years ago passed what is know as "keep it right" amendment to their Vehicle codes..
CHAPTER 33 of PA VEHICLE CODES
Page 6 of PA Vehicle code Chapter 33 STATES..
"Section 3313. Restrictions on use of limited access highways.
(d) Driving in right lane.--
(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) and unless otherwise posted, upon all limited access highways having two or more lanes for traffic moving in the same direction, all vehicles shall be driven in the right-hand lanes when available for traffic except when any of the following conditions exist:
(i) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction.
(ii) When traveling at a speed greater than the traffic flow.
(iii) When moving left to allow traffic to merge.
(iv) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection, exit or into a private road or driveway when such left turn is legally permitted.
(2) Unless otherwise posted, no vehicle or combination over 10,000 pounds may be driven in the left-hand lane of a limited access highway having three or more lanes for traffic moving in the same direction except when preparing for a left turn at an intersection, an exit or into a private road or driveway when such left turn is legally permitted.

I see folks not only not obeying this but basically OBSTRUCTING traffic by either staying the same speed as the right lane or going SLOWER than the right lane :M
Basically put, if you are not intending on PASSING someone (aka going faster than the right lane)in the right lane you have no business in the left lanes. - stetwoodExplorerIt appears if your time is limited you push the limits so that you can say you saw the USA in 14 days or less. Those of us with plenty of time, take it easy and let everyone else zip around us. Those who pass us at speeds in excess of 3 mph faster than we are going are quickly out of our stopping zone and make for a safer trip. Personally driving 8 hours or more is a pain in the butt. Have done it, but don't like it and probably will do it again, however.
- Jay_PatExplorerMy tires are rated 65mph, so that's my limit.
On rough roads, I will slow down as I did today on I-440 in Little Rock........
Slowed down to 50-55.
That's one rough road.....

You'll see plenty of RVers going 65 and beyond but I stick to about 58 MPH. Why- Easier to avoid an accident, it's relaxing, big improvement in fuel economy (compared to 65 or 70) and Why hurry. 58 compared to 65 won't make a lot of difference in miles over a whole day.
Lots of reasons.
Some people don't get very much vacation time and may have long distances to travel.
Some may get a lot of vacation time but want to see a lot of things.
Some want to go a lot of places
Family or friends may live a long way away.
The difference between 55 and 75 is a lot of miles when you figure 8 hours of driving a day. 160 to be exact. And if you figure it over 14 days one can travel over 2000 more miles.
For some reason when people think of RVing a lot of people think of retired people. This is not the case most of the time. It's usually families that want to enjoy some time on the road RVing.
One of these days I will be retired and can drive 55mph in my RV. That day is not today. :M But I can always look forward to that day! :)
^^^^^. Exactly, my life is 2 week vacations from work, been doing it for decades.
We have been to all four corners of US, Alaska and Canada. Our vacation Rigs are purposely configured to travel safe at speeds up to 85 mph.
Fuel cost savings going slower is unimportant, time is most precious.
By driving fast we can in effect add 2 to 3 days depending on distance, at a vacation destination! When get to a new area we slow down and enjoy. ;) - Dog_FolksExplorer62 for us. It seems to be the sweet spot for our motor, without holding up traffic too much. Tires are rated at 65.
I would run 55 if I could, as my mileage gets a LOT better there. - McZippieExplorer

- seleExplorerI usually run somewhere around 62 to 65 But my concern is more the towing conditions and how traffic is rather than the speed limit.
