Can we drive to PEI? We haven't been there in forty years but remember having to take a ferry. Didn't have an RV back then....

Having lived in NH all my adult life I will tell you that IMO it's about the ugliest time of year. Trees still bare, "rotting snow" still around as well as a good chance of significant snowfall, freezing night temps, mud, frost heaves and potholes. Same for most the Northern New England area. Not to mention very few CG's open but there are some. Don't want to be negative but...

Have to agree even in MA. We still had a lot of snow on the ground that time last year and a number of campgrounds that usually open about 4/15 (Cape) had to delay their openings because of snow. May is usually better and many of the campgrounds have opened by then but if winter and spring run late, May can be cold and wet.

Last April on Cape Cod was miserable. In fact, it seemed the entire winter/spring was one month behind.

Ditto on finding open CGs. We had reservations at Normandy Farms in April this year and although they were open, the park staff called and said they "weren't really ready" and that most of the sites were still covered with snow. We rescheduled to a weekend in early May. The place was packed.

OTOH, the midwest can be delightful in April and May. Lake of the Ozarks, Branson, Cape Girardeau.

April weather is dicey in the NE. Not for nothing does the song go "....though April's showers may come your way....".

Most (but not all) campgrounds open in mid May so check in advance.

You will probably have trouble finding open campgrounds at that time of year. No doubt there will be a few, but most will not open until later.
Facilities might be limited and tourist attractions also could be closed.
Something to check on.

April will be risky lots of rain and cold for NH, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia could even have snow in the higher altitudes of NH. Month of May expect warmer temperatures and more sun.
