Are the splash, mud shields effective?
Just wondering how effective they are and if I should put one on the TV to protect the 5R. I do notice that not everyone uses them, but traveling from Wisconsin to Florida in the winter usually means...

If you are driving a class A, some are, Some are not and some make it worse.
Some folks have those big brush things that sweep up rocks and toss em up onto the towed.
Some have what used to be called an "Underskirt" (They changed the name) this is a big cloth thing that goes UNDER your tow bar, and it works great.
Some have plastic shields, may or may not work
But lots of folks believe in 'em.
