I have encountered my share of know-it-alls on this site, but generally it's not too much of a problem. I figure their opinions are worth exactly what I paid for them.
OTOH, in all the time we have camped we have never run into one of these people. We even went on a 6000 mild cross-country trip and met some of the nicest people ever. They were happy to help us with hitching and backing up and didn't make us feel inadequate. We have had people give us their extra firewood when they were leaving the campground. We've had people share their Thanksgiving feast with us. One time a Marine rescued one of my children from a pool when he got in over his head!
Yeah, give me the camping life any day.
