That video - as poor or as tolerable as it may be - is kindof talking around a point that I have mentioned a few times in these forums.
Some of us desire an RV to be "ready for anything at any time" and as such, must be fully self-contained under all reasonable conditions. What this means to me is that the ultimate RV has both generator and solar capabilities. If one can't afford both in the beginning then go with a generator first, and then add solar later when and if the budget eventually permits.
Our RV has a strange mix that does not make it the "ultimate", but does make it ready for a wide variety of conditions. We have a large (and fairly quiet and vibration-free) built-in generator fueled from the main 55 gallon tank and also carry along a small super-quiet 650 watt portable generator along with separate fuel for it. Since our rig is a motorhome as opposed to a towable - we also have cab heating, cab cooling, and alternator electrical power to help keep the coach area livable in "emergencies" - via idling of the chassis engine.
