Many of the As Seen on TV items simply do a task that I am perfectly able to do myself, or have no need for. Eggies to cook eggs? The Ronco hot dogger to cook hot dogs? The Egg Pealer to peal eggs? Sorry, but I can do these myself.
Over the years, I have seen a few unique things advertised on TV that truly seemed innovative, and some of these (but not all) actually worked as advertised. Thirty years ago, I bought a set of luggage from the TV Auction and I still have a few of those pieces today. They have held up to anything the baggage handlers threw at them. We got a NuWave hotplate from my father-in-law since he went for the 2 for the price of one...just pay separate shipping and handling, and then sold one to us. Our daughter says it works great.
One thing I wished I'd ordered. Probably 25 years ago, there was an older woodworker who advertised a vice that had many adaptations to it. It was made of metal, but could be converted in a number of ways to do a number of jobs. It looked very useful, but then it disappeared and I've never seen the commercial since.
And for the folks who think everything advertised on TV is junk - The guy who invented the Black and Decker Workmate originally went to many companies (including B&D) trying to sell his idea to them. They all turned him down flat. So he started manufacturing them through his own company and selling them at trade shows, etc. They were a hot item. A couple years later, B&D approached him and bought him out. They have since sold millions, and the workmate is a great product. Some of those name brand products you buy may well have started out with simple beginnings.
