You did the right thing.
The folks that attempted to park the coach should have practiced backing long before arriving at camp in a deserted parking lot. Since the spotter does not drive or position the RV; therefore, should leave the driver alone to park the RV. What works very well for us is to position the spotter in the spot exactly adjacent to where I want the end of the RV and I just back to her. She says nothing looking up and around unless I am about to hit something. It works well, no walkie talkies or any other distracting stuff. If the spotter does not move it is easy, if the spotter is walking around it is harder. The spotter needs to stand still. Work it out before getting to camp.
For those that think it is the same as a boat ramp, it really is! Absolutely free entertainment at the boat ramp on weekends and if it is a littlw windy and some waves, it is even more interesting. But there is a difference between a boat ramp and parking an RV. RV parking can be practiced in a quiet area until perfected. Most can only launch their boat at a boat ramp so practice comes at the expense of being a spectacle for all.
