On my first trip with my first camper, a pop up, I just couldn't get backed in to a spot. I ended up unhitching in the middle of the road and having my boys help me push it in place. As soon as we were in set up, a guy with a HUGE trailer drove a little past the site next to us, threw it in reverse, and backed in in one fast move. I waited until later in the day, then went to him and complimented on how well he backed in and told him of my troubles. He told me what I needed to do. I have never had a problem since. If I get nervous at a site, I just breathe deep and remember what he told me. Many is the time I see others struggling and want to give them the same 5 minutes of advice, but, I am always afraid I will just be nosing my way into someone's business.
I remember the pop-up days. We unhitched many times in the middle of the road and pushed it into the camp site. Often times, we'd turn the camper 90 degrees, with the door facing away from the road and the back of the camper facing the road. It created a bit more privacy (if that's possible in a campground. But we sure came up with some dandy configurations to park that pup! Those WERE the days. Can't do that now with the monster i have!
