In regards to heat, a heat pump loses efficiency as the outside temperature drops. In the low to mid 40's my experience is that it is more efficient to run the furnace or other alternate heat. I have a heat pump both in my fiver and in my sticks and bricks home.
The girl I was talking to said outside temp had nothing to do with the heat pump working it was the inside temperature that the heat pump got its heat from. She was clue less as to how the heat pump worked.......
