We're thinking of getting a toad but DW insists on an automatic. I've got crossed eyes looking all over and can't find anything but sites that only lead to other sites with NO information. Does anyon...

I own a 2000 Xterra 4x4 with automatic transmission. I do not tow with it, although it can be towed 4 down. According to the manual, you can tow it up to 500 miles then unhook and drive it around. Hook it back up and you can go another 500 miles. I do not believe anyone has a transmission bypass kit.
The Xterra is heavy. Mine is even heavier with 33" tires, steel rock sliders and solid steel skid plates, so I never bothered even trying to tow it behind the motorhome.
I don't know about the second generation Xterras (2005+).
