Backup cameras?

Does anyone have a backup camera installed on their fifth wheel? If so what brand did you get and are you happy with it? Did you install it yourself and was it simple?

Thanks in advance for the information.

I posted this in the fifth wheel forum too. I need to decide to have it installed while the fifth wheel is at the dealer getting some work done or can I install it. I have some skills but much better working with wood than electricity.
  • I just re-read you testing post. is this installed? or just a temporary setup?

if the camera is pointing away from you as you watch the screen it will be backwards, point the camera behind you as it it was installed
  • their support sucks, they text me and said to turn upside down. tried to send feedback to them, website will not take it. have been on hold again. really like how unit SHOULD work, but I think I will send it back if I cant get any help.
  • well I flipped camera and now all is upside down.
contacted support, was told by first person after 1hr on hold, he did not know. transferred me to another, left message.
I do think it is the unit. online instructions show button #8 is for screen rotation, but on mine it is just a countdown for turning off. and it doesn't countdown.
I hope to get it fixed, all in all looks good
  • probably a setting on the unit to reverse the image. If mounted high you camera could be upside done as either kind of works

mounting high also gives perspective if you wand to back close to something
  • well just connected my PLCM7500 to test it. problem is the picture is reversed, sure don't want to backup this way. have posted for their support.
    we will see.
they do not have any support FAQ on website, hope support does not take long.
also the instruction are not much help, but good review help online.
  • We have a Furrion Digital wireless camera. It came as an option on our Open Range Roamer (ordered by someone else who then couldn't complete the deal so we got a smokin' deal!).
It was a PAIN to get it working. Finally took it to the dealer where 3 different service people fiddled with it to get it working. It's okay now but I don't think we would have bought it - so far it hasn't seemed that useful.
  • just received mine in mail.
    PLCM7500 was only about 60.00

thanks for info on mounting it high. I was thinking of putting it on back bumper, but I do think cars following behind will be an issue.
will take a couple of days to get it installed
I looked at the wireless and the cost was pretty high.
only problem is getting a good setup from 5er to truck
  • I have a Furrion back up cam on my 31' TT. It's wireless and it was simple to install. It was like $400 and it's kinda cool but I'm not so sure I would spend that much again. I really don't use it that much for backing. It's hard to sense distances on the screen. I wired it to the running lights so it can also be used going down the road. I like to be able to see whats behind me.

You may want to have the rear camera mounted up high on the rear of your trailer and have it pointing down at an angle. The view killer is lights shinning into the camera eye and flares up your view screen and you can't see a thing then...

This install is from google search and you can see where the camera lens is installed by the red circle...
