Why not put a residential stopper in? Pull a lever to open and close.
If it was me, I'd chuck that plastic stopper and get a rubber stopper with a chain. The screen inserts are great. I don't have one in the RV but in the house, we have one for the kitchen sink. Even with a garbage disposal, they tend to keep all the plumbing neat and clean.
