Battery disconnect

To tow a 2013 Ford Fiesta the user manual says that the negative battery cable must be disconnected. Does anyone know if that serves any other purpose other than to prevent the Fiesta's battery from being discharged while being towed? If towed with the battery connected and a battery charge unit which draws current from the motorhome would that cause any problems with other components?
  • Disconnect battery at the post.I have a focus towed to Fla this winter towed OK.

    No

Honda recommends pulling the radio fuse for extended towing.

Most either install a fuse disconnect switch or a battery charge wire

    Both work well..

  • I think the main reason for disconnecting the negative battery cable is to prevent the electronic shift from moving out of neutral and frying the tranny. Under NO circumstances would I tow it with the battery connected.
