It’s not just driving either. Every once in a while we lose an out of state camper who thought that the flat mouth of that wash looked like a good place to set up his tent. Not realizing rain in the mountains is channeled out through those washes and it can be a wall of water.
We were near Jemez Springs, NM a couple of years ago when a lady tried to cross a dip in the road and the water flow was heavy. She, of course, stalled out and a couple of bystanders waded out and carried her out of the wash. We waited for hours for the flow to get down to where it we were able to cross and the road was covered with rocks and mud.
