I put the existing bearings back in for now. At the next repack I'll replace them if additional marks are showing up. Also I found that both grease seals where going on the passenger side.
I think if you're going to inspect/pack the bearings/seals regularly it might be better to NOT have a spindle with a grease fitting. That sharp hole for the grease seems like an ideal candidate for messing up the seal.
