I was at Discount Tire the other day and was quoted $25 per wheel for a repack. Don't know if that included a new grease seal, but at that price it almost makes me think twice about doing it myself.
I'm a fan of a bargain, but am realistic enough to know that you get what you pay for. At $25 per, I'd be asking myself what kind of job they're going to do. Does this include a new grease seal? Is a junior tire swapper going to do the job? Will they truly pack the bearing or just rub some grease on it? Will they adjust the brakes? Will they properly preload the bearing? Will they properly torque the lug nuts or will they viciously attack them with an impact wrench? At that price, it seems a little doubtful.
