I volunteer as a Campground Host at an NFS recreation area in the Blue Ridge. No grizzlies here, either, but we do have bears, and even small ones can mess you up pretty badly if you get too close. Last summer a hiker on the Appalachian Trail nearby got mauled. She rounded a corner and bumped into a bear. She was saved by her son, hiking a very short distance behind her.
