Best Paper California map!

Found this California map book when cleaning out my aunt and uncle’s home a number of years ago. It’s in the truck when driving and in the trailer when not. Wonderful detail in this 1993 edition printed 8x11.  What old paper maps do you rely on?

  • I had to use the Thomas street map of L.A. back in the 70's when I worked at Telecolor studios as an onsite photographer.  Thaomas' was just as essential as a strobe and a background.

If I am sticking within a single state I will open a Delorme Gazetteer.  We have all of the states (individual multi page state maps down to forest roads.

The interweb has pretty much made them cumbersome but I still take them as they are more fun than looking at a little phone screen while sitting around the table.

  • cool find, although it will be severly outdated with the construction over the last 30some years.  heck I go down to the mainland now and if the gps hasn't been updated in 3 or 4 years you do nothing but get lost 🤣

Yup. Definitely been a mite confused on occasion!

I don't even buy vehicles with built in gps anymore, I just make sure they have android auto.  wayze and google maps are updated so often I have never had that issue since.  I still do have that issue when we are heading out to rec sites, I am having to teach the wife how to read the mapbooks or I end up stopping every 5 min to see if I missed a turn.  little bit harder when your going up old logging roads and such.
