I don't think I would ever replace a vent with another plain vent. I believe I would always at least add a fan to the vent. We replaced the high center vent above our kitchen with a Maxx-Air with remote control and never look back. I had to climb on a chair to open and close the OEM version, and that didn't happen. The Maxx-Air has directional fan as well as multi-speed. Absolutely love it!
