Best Route to Sequoia Park in California

There are two routes to get to Sequoia. One via 198 out of Visalia, the other route 180 out of Fresno. From So cal, it would seem that 198 is the most direct, but I have heard of some vehicle length restrictions on portions or 198 due to construction in the area.

Anyone been up that route lately?

We live in the Los Angeles area, near Pasadena and we take I-5 to Ca. 14 to US 395 to Ca 120. A couple of grades but we see all sizes going up and coming down. We have a condo in Mammoth Lakes and often drive to the Valley for the day. Only been over in an RV once but nothing big. Lovely drive.

the OP asked about Sequoia NP, not Yosemite NP.

  • 198 is very curvey. Three Rivers, just before the park entrance, is a nice little town, but I prefer going up 180, even though it is a little out of the way for us. It's just a heck of lot nicer drive.

    depends on what you're driving.

    if it's a car/truck/class b, then 198 out of three rivers.
if it a larger MH or you're towing something, DON'T go that way.
you'll need to enter from the north on 198.

    Did you mean 180?
