Why in the world would you want to put flat spots on your $150 each tires fine tuning your trailer brakes by locking them up then backing off. Start with the minimum adjustment first, then adjust forward for more braking.
Nobody said drag them until they left black marks and started to smoke!!! A quick "chirp" is all you need and does no damage.
Besides, either way you adjust until the brakes lock, then back off. Only thing you'll do by starting from the bottom is heat the brakes up so they won't be as effective when you do finally get them to chirp.
WOW. I did not say "drag them until they left black marks" A quick "chirp" as you say will put a flat spot on your tires. Start with the minimum braking and adjust from there and you will not have any flat spots on your $150 each tires. Common sense should prevail in this issue.
Common sense says a quick "chirp" will absolutely NOT leave flat spots on the tires.
I set my brakes this way every time and I dare you to find a flat spot on any of my four 12-year-old tires. They are just as round and black as they were when new.
You da man
