My husband is 66 and has a mountain bike and a street bike. Rides the mountain bike in our southern CA mountains about 100 miles a week. Rides his street bike at least 50 miles a week. On the other hand, not being an avid cyclist, I have a beach cruiser with a few speeds. I call it my campground bike.
