I would steer them towards a Mtn. Bike with 21 or 24 speeds. They could use it on the road or dirt trails around the CG. Multiple speeds will allow for less pressure on the knees when climbing hills. The suspension will be better than a cruiser or a road bike and if you buy one with a short head set they will be able to sit more upright than a rode bike. Make sure you buy one with a wide seat not one with the racing seat. I am 67 and still ride both but more and more prefer the Mtn. bike and is what I carry in the MH. It stores nicely inside the pass tru compartment.
