years back the CDC did a study and found that any septic tank setback was temporary and it quickly recovered back to normal operation.

This is true however when you have a campground of 200 sites on a septic tank and after a busy weekend and everyone dumps at once, you get a good dose of formaldehyde.
Besides, formaldehyde is a preservative. Why in the world would you want to preserve poop?
