I've read a lot of threads about winterization. Some say blow the lines, some say fill the lines with antifreeze. But I still have a few questions. I'm sure I'll get a number of opinions, but I figure it's like reading product reviews. If the majority goes one way, then that becomes a factor in the decision making process. The more info I get, the better informed decision I can make. Thanks.
If you blow the lines, will there be residual water that can burst a line?
What's the chance of bursting a line with an air compressor?
If you blow the lines, do you really need antifreeze in the lines?
How do you drain the washing machine connection without having water/antifreeze everywhere?
If I want to use the rig during the winter, can I just blow the lines after each use and not waste antifreeze?
Wow already 3 pages!
"Any kind of energy will take the path of least resistance". This said once you blow the lines and you start getting some air out the other end. The air you blow in could ride over the water in the lines leaving water pockets. And yes this those pockets could freeze and bust lines. of course this all depends on how long your blowing out the lines and how much pressure your putting in. also what ever pressure your putting into the lines you will get something LESS going out because of friction loss.
The best way to push out one column of water is with another. I drain the hot water tank, bypass it and I just use my RV water pump to flush/pump out all the lines till there pink. then open a couple of faucets for expansion. been doing it for 14 yrs never had a problem.
Been doing the same with my pool heat pump also. never had a problem with that either
