Boy sure seems like a big deal for some. I always just draining the unit and HW tank. Do the bypass and then let the pump suck in the pink stuff. I normally go through about 1 1/2 gallons at the high cost of $1.97 a gallon at Menards takes all of 15 to 20 minutes.
I don't worry about missing a trap or the toilet spray etc it is a done deal.
BUT >>>>>>>>>>>....... Do not forget the city water entrance when doing your thing. there is a valve there with a spring behind it to only open when there is a hose with water pressure to open it. My last duty in doing my thing is to take a screwdriver or other small tool apply pressure to this little valve and stand clear as if you did the pink stuff it has pink stuff on the other side and will be sprayed out. Don't do this and you may need to spend 10 bucks in the Spring for a new valve!
