I run 9 links. My tongue weight us usually 1500-1800 pounds with 1500# bars. I rarely have to extend the jack fully, unless I'm in a dip. I'm not sure I could run 10 links, and seems like that could cause binding on a tight turn where the trailer is almost 90 degrees from the rig.
I don't think full front axle weight restoration is needed (or even desirable) on an already nose-heavy diesel.
Also, 9 links allows for the half twist in the chains, which prevent binding. I tried 8 links initially, and the straight chain would just barely catch the head of the pivot pin, and wedge itself in there.
