Boondocking and unhooking

We left our pop up at tourist info places for a few hours on several occasions. No charge.

Ummm...you mention dropping the TT for sightseeing, where do you plan on sleeping??? If you can afford the gas to tow from CO to NE, then you need to budget some $$ for CGs as well. Most national and state parks are reasonably priced. Part of affording to tow a trailer is affording to park it somewhere....

Thanks, everyone. PLease rest assured - I would not think of dropping a trailer at WM, or a great number of other places. As for boondocking in the NE - well, never been there so I didn't know it was so difficult. This is just part of traveling and being able to see our beautiful country. It is taking a lot of research (and help from people like all of you). I WILL get this accomplished, and of course there will be a hitch lock on the trailer when we are gone no matter where we drop it. I really like a couple of these ideas and appreciate the time you took to respond to my question. Now I must get back to my research :-) Happy trails to you and yours . . . .

yes you 'can' but you shouldn't, certainly not without permission of the property owner. consider using a campground or RV park for your base.

I have seen people unhook and leave their campers at Wally world. I would ask first. I just go to a RV park if I am going to be in the area for more then a few hours sleep.

are You a member of any type of national club. The Elks allow camping when available in their facilitys if you are a member.Maybe some others do too. A church parking lot with permission and maybe a $10 bill? Hospitals. Just make sure you park where no one can park you in or prevent you from hitching up again. Happened to me in a state park. Told to park "over there" and plenty of room and some smart arse parked right in front of me. Had to wait until he came back from fishing. Rangers told him in so many words that he was an ss.

I've taken mine to local RV dealers with a large rear lot, paid them $10-20 a day cash, and both of us were happy.
