Border crossing- Bear spray?

This summer we will be traveling from Glacier N.P. to Banff. I was wondering if we will have any problems with carrying bear spray at border crossings.
  • The flood threat has passed and washed out bridges are being replaced with temporary spans. We are in for some real summer weather next week so do bring the sun screen.
  • This may not be the summer to visit Banff. They are in the mid of floods. Main road in and out is closed down. Heavy flooding up there.
Better check it out before you leave home...
  • A few days ago, I was asked if I had any bear spray with me......
Along with did I have any firearms and did I have a concealed gun permit.
    I did not.

  • No problems at all.....As long as it specifically states on the can, "for use on animals only" & "not for use on humans". We have crossed multiple times, always with a large can of bear spray and the Canadian officers have checked it about 50% of the time. Have never had an American officer check it, not even once. We do make darn sure we declare it each and every time we cross.
  • Check out their web site. I think that is a banned substance.
