I know there are no taxes if I bought from a private party in Az. but will Az. collect taxes from me to send to Co. when I license it in Az.? TIA! Craig

Not that I'm aware of. As with Washington and Oregon. Oregon has no sales tax and if I buy from a private party in Oregon I will pay taxes when I go to license it in Washington. Even if they did collect taxes in AZ they would credit it towards your tax payment. I have never heard of a private seller collecting taxes and I wouldn't let them. They may not send it to the state.

I flew to Michigan to buy a Jeep, drove it back to Az and paid the sales tax to Az. Easy to do and the Michigan dealer gave me a 10 day drive away tag. I paid only for the car in Michigan, nothing else.

I don't think that AZ will charge collect any sales tax if it was bought from a private party - in any state. However, I would check with the MVD if that is an issue, prior to purchasing it.

On a new vehicle you would pay 5.6% sales tax when you register at AZ DMV if no taxes were paid in the other state. 5.6% is AZ's state taxes. City and county taxes are not charged. A separate VLT tax is paid at the rate of $2.80 per $100 value computed as 60% of base MSRP.I maybe wrong but I don't think AZ charges sales tax on used car purchases. They did for a few years in the 90's but I believe that ended.
