Well, I've heard of fire bans before and even did camping in State Parks and such when campfires were prohibited because of fire bans. But this one is a first. We have been in a few private campgrounds that did not have a fire ring at all at the campsites. I never thought anything about it though, because the sites were so close to each other, you'd literally have to build a fire under your neighbors RV or under your own awning. There just wasn't enough room for adequate space for a campfire.I would think any campground that does not allow campfires has made that decision for good reasons, mainly ... the safety of everyone! Sparks, ash, and foolish people in tight quarters can become a disaster real fast.Before just banning a campground, it might do well to at least ask management why they do not permit campfires. And if you still cannot accept their logic, you are 100% correct ... choose another campground.

honestly. A CG where campfires are not allowed is a deal breaker for us. Unless we are at the beach and it is 95 degrees. then they can ban all the camp fires they want. But in the mountains. If a CG doesn't allow fires, we just don't go. If the site are too close together to have a fire. That is just another reason to stay away from that CG. what ever their reason. It is a deal breaker. In Maggie Valley, fires are not allowed on site. They have a communal fire. We don't camp there either.

So, Fire bans? Too much hand wringing and fake drama on here, lately.

Not a deal breaker to us and as Dutch wrote, there's usually a good reason for it. When it comes to private places, it's probably an insurance issue.

You contradict yourself. You won't stay where campfires are not allowed, but you have a RV Park (which I doubt) and have burn bans.

I would not like our forested national or state parks to be mismanaged. If I owned them, fires would NOT be allowed.

My recent “no propane campfires” experience had nothing to do with a fire ban. was simply the private park’s rules. Near my small trailer park we lost 14,000 acres of mostly public lands last year...started by lighting. Forest have always had fires...the question is how much of our “rights” do we lose to protect against the possibility of a fire? Years ago I struggled with a missouri county over their ban on swimming from lake shores. In the public meeting a ranger said “mr...have you ever pulled a drowned young girl out of a lake?”. I responded...”no and that has to be the most horrible experience...but then maybe you should drain the lake”. Towns all over america have or will ban winter sledding in their parks. How far we will let this kind of “protection” go?

How dare the owner of a private campground put a rule in place that didn't make everyone happy....After all, it is their place, and their rules to be made.

What is this world coming to? You don't get it your way so you go for a ban, or boycott?

And to clarify...I always respect and obey a burning ban. but I stated that campfires are so important to people, that some have canceled when they learned that we were in a ban.

I can't eat if we can't have a campfire because our main meal is always cooked in one way or another over a fire... Since the evening meal is always a big adventure we only really eat a big breakfast and look forward forward to fun things like this.

No, I don't get dressed up like that to camp... ;-)

PS: It was delicious and I didn't us a reflector it was simply done off a tripod alongside a fire...

When we camp with our kids, there's a campfire going at all times (assuming there's no bans). I'm one of those lucky ones who's allergic to smoke, and it follows me no matter where I sit....LOL! But when it's just Ed and I - we never bother with a campfire. And I *have* asked to be moved to another site if we arrive to find our potential neighbors have a smokey fire going that will be blowing into our site.
As more and more of our pines are killed off by beetles (often transported by campers, sad to say) - we will have more fire bans I predict, simply because the former forests are now a stand of "tinder"

Oh, the pain of it all! LOL!!! If you want RIDICULOUS look in a mirror. Why should your wants rule? If there's no fire allowed, don't go there. Some of us prefer to be able to breathe. The last think I want is to wind up at the ER due to an asthma attack. Did I stay in campgrounds with fires? Absolutely-I just did my best to stay out of the smoke. Do the same with my fire pit at home. It's called freedom of CHOICE. Why you think you have the right to decide for ME what amenities I should get in a campground is hilarious.
