Breakfast at the Campground

While eating breakfast sitting at our FS campground picnic table this morning , I had the opportunity to watch a campground neighbor pack up and leave. There was a lot of enjoyable stuff going on like leaving his trailer steps extended, and the vents open, but what really capped my interest was the triple tow and what I saw when they left.

The truck was maybe a 1974 dodge dually, pulling a 1980's coachman 5th wheel. They spent a good half hour or more trying to hook up a patio boat trailer to the coachman trailer (having a tough time lining up the two). The guy had run a plug for the patio boat trailer under the coachman. When they finally had everything all hooked up and ready to go, the young couple with two kids that had been outside and helping with the hookup, jumped in the trailer and closed the door and the entire triple headed out of the campground and onto the narrow and windy paved county road with the patio boat umbilical cord dragging on the ground.
  • This reminds me of the Progressive Insurance commercial where the people drive in towing about 10 different trailers behind them.....

How is it "triple tow"? Was there a third trailer behind the boat?

"Doubles" and "Triples" are defined by state laws and vary from state to state.

In some states a "Double" is a tow vehicle and one trailer; in other states that rig would be a "Single".

In some states a "Double" is a tow vehicle and two trailers; in other states that rig would be a "Triple".

    etc.
