I broke down in Melbourne, FL. Got the motorhome off the highway and into a park n ride. Going in I noticed a beautiful red Peterbilt tractor rig. Called Coachnet and the sent a small tow truck that would have had a hard time towing a VW. The tow truck guy called Coachnet and told them to send a big tow truck. One arrived 3 hours later. This tow truck guy said his tow truck could do it but he'd never towed a big diesel pusher. He didn't want to tow it.
Having owned this DP for 2 years I knew everything that could cause these symptoms and sure enough it was the last thing I checked. The engine cooling fan had fallen off.
Anyway, around 11 p.m. a car pulls in and the driver asks what's wrong. I told him the fan fell off and he said no way. The women with him pointed to the immaculate Peterbilt from Toronto, CA and said that's his. He asked if he could take a look. I said if that tractor is yours you can do what you want.
1 hour later he found almost all that parts and between me, the tow truck driver and I we supplied the rest. He put the fan back on and we were on our way.
I was saved by a very nice Canadian trucker.
The chassis manufacturer who had always blamed a bolt for failing now knew why the other fans had fallen off their chassis.
