pnichols - You did answer those questions when you decided that carrying the genset was worth it for the risk of losing "all the self-containment comfort that you thought you paid for". :)
For me, there aren't any self-containment comforts that I'd lose. 90% of my RV time is with no hookups. My RV lifestyle is based on the no-electrical end. The only thing I have with electrical that I don't have without is the AC and I don't use it where I camp.
