bum leg

Five years ago today, I left for work on my Harley at 6:30am. By 6:35 and less than 2 miles from the house, I was laying along the road dying, with my right leg almost ripped off and my hip shattered, thanks to a pick up running a stop sign. Well, I did survive, and the
doctor thought he could save my leg. Now, I have a hinge in place of a knee, with the rod from below the knee and about 8 inches up my thigh. My hip was put back together. As I healed, with nothing left in my knee area, if filled with solid scar tissue and my hip fused. So I have no movement in knee and hip. Daily pain ranges from discomfort to extreme. This summer I started getting infections, on the 4th one now, and not responding to the antibiotics as well, I don't think. In the last month, 2 doctors have not given me much to
be optimistic about, as far as keeping the leg. Five years ago, I would have expected to lose it, but now I don't. At age 63, I don't
think I could handle it as well, physically or mentally. And the older
I get, the worse it will be on me. I've already given up my classic corvettes, I just can't get into them or drive them any more, I can still drive the class c mh, and don't want to have to give it up. Thanks for listening to this long post, or rant. Constant pain can make you depressed. In two weeks we are leaving on a two trip to South Carolina, and if I feel like I do now, it will be miserable for me, but my wife is really looking forward to it. So I'll put on my best face for her, lie about how I feel, and do it. We want to check out the area for wintering if she can retire next year.
  • Thanks for the update. I'm really glad that you enjoyed the trip. I hope that the antibiotic works. There's nothing worse than uncertainty about what your future holds.
  • Thanks for the update Richardwise and that you had a good trip. That's good news! Let us know how the antibiotics go and if you decide to follow advice from others here on a differnt approach.
