Bumper carrier fail..

Yesterday we were following a fifth wheel over a bridge. As we hit a bump on the bridge , the carrier on the bumper broke off ,and the generator on the carrier went bouncing across the road. We were able to avoid the generator and other equipment , but I'm not what happened behind us. I wish people would not attach bike carriers etc to bumpers unless the bumper has been properly strengthened.
  • I'd like to be listening to the telephone call to the insurance man...

If you think dodging road debris is scary in your RV think what it looks like to those of us riding motorcycles. A lot of bikers have ended up seriously dead as a result of these idiots improperly securing their loads.

Is there any other kind of dead?

  • Not a safe thing to do unless the unit is designed to haul on the rear bumper, and most aren't , also the added weight in the rear can and does cause sway.
    Luckily no one was injured.
  • A generator on a bumper carrier is an accident looking for a place to happen.
  • a 30 pound bicycle is one thing.. but a Generator...!!!

my 2 bicycles and bike rack is 105 pounds.. and currently making necessary mods to bumper for them. and the mods also include a under the body spare tire mount.

and the spare tire is 47 pounds...

    Stay Safe out there.
  • We had a friend drop a bike rack off his. Luckily is stayed attached and dragged down the highway until he was notified by a passer by. I have seen a few things this year on my travels. A full size grill flew out of a truck in front of me which I missed by a foot or so and a bicycle fell of a rack a few cars ahead.
