You could be dead in six years.

You could also be FULLY ALIVE 30 or more yrs PAST your retirement date.
My Dad, retired at age 58, 38yrs working time at a refinery working shifts, double shifts and even 12 on 12 off, retired with decent pension.. Today is still alive at age 91 going on 92 this spring.
My parents enjoyed and made the most of their retirement yrs by snow birding in the winter and visiting my Brother in the summer in VT for months at a time.
Granted not everyone will be able to do so depending on health and funds they can afford to spend on a HOBBY like this.
RVing unless you choose to full time IS a HOBBY.
You must make up your mind if you want to spend everything you have before you "retire" and HOPE you have something left to "retire" on..
OR you can be methodical.
The OP appears to be on the methodical side, used does make sense but unless you do use it some now before you retire you are just wasting money.
IF you have never "camped" in a RV, I would recommend RENTING a RV for several short camping trips BEFORE committing to buying any RV.
RVs are not for everybody and sometimes find out the expensive hard way that they do not like it after they bought one. This will also give you a chance to figure out what you like or dislike in a RV, might find out that you don't like driving a huge motorhome but a small TT suits you better.. Or don't like TT or motorhome but a slide in truck camper suits you better..
Before retiring, you might wish to consider a small USED TT if you have a tow vehicle that can tow, then when you retire, you could sell off the small TT and then buy a used motorhome. A used TT gives you some camping experience before retiring at a very low cost! Should not have any problem finding a used TT for $10K or less..
Additionally, RVs do require constant attention maintenance, failure to check and repair caulking on the roof around doors/windows on a regular schedule will render it a pile of junk in a couple of yrs from water damage.
