I got it at Dennis Dillon, and they were close to $5000 less than the deal Dave Smith offered me.
Sorry but to me this does not compute?
As others have said, the price at Smith starts at invoice less rebates. With other credits and rebates to dealer, they would be "lucky" to make $2000 - $2500 on deal.
So it seems unlikely that a basically identical truck could be $5000 cheaper anywhere.. :h They would not sell at a loss.
They may both be a Ram with a Cummins but for $5000 less, you had to get less stuff if that was really the difference.
Having spent many years in the business I am used to hearing stuff like this and it usually doesn't hold up when invoices/specs are closely compared.
Sorry if it doesn't compute for you, but that's the deal they offered me. Sticker was within $500 on the two trucks at around $51k. Dennis Dillon price was just a hair over $39k before TTD, Dave Smith quote was $44k. The Dave Smith sales guy knew I lived in the Boise area and had been talking to Dennis Dillon, so he may have figured I was a lost cause and threw a high offer at me as a result, but that was my experience. He was a bit of a d!ck to be honest with you.
In total I contacted five different dealerships. The second best offer I got was from Larry Miller in Boise, and I think it was around $1200 higher than the price I got from Dennis Dillon. The sales guy there was a good guy to deal with and I'd have been happy to buy from that dealership, but Dennis Dillon's price was a bit better and they were good to deal with as well.
Ida, your exactly right and that's where I found the new deal was a Dillon. I called Dave Smith to see if I could get my deposit back as they were non communicative on getting the deal finished and was told hey that's what deposits are for, you don't get that back. I told him that because of the delays I don't think it's appropriate to hold my deposit. He said he would look into it and call me back but to be honest I've pretty much written off the deposit as a bad deal.
The salesman at Dillon has been texting me everyday to make sure we are tracking through the process.
Dave Smith sells a lot of trucks and I suppose can deal with alienating customers but glad I looked into Dillon. Thanks Ida for the info, I should have looked sooner. :)
I was even shown the invoice on one truck at my local dealer. 64.5k sticker. They told me that they would sell it to me at invoice minus the holdback for 54.8k or about 10k less.
Dillon was 65.2k sticker and I'm in for 53.1k so not sure how they do it. They even had this truck priced at 49.8k if I had qualified for a few incentives (but I didn't). So this invoice minus holdback is all the dealer makes doesn't hold water to me. I figure they get other money based on volume and other things. You don't build mega dealerships losing money on deals.
