Where factory support become useful is for the shell itself. Yes but if you can contact the original builder of the house it will always be to your advantage.
I agree an orphan unit should not be a true deal breaker especially if it is a manufacturer you like with a stellar reputation, But given the choice between Orphan an non orphan why go orphan?
