Buying in Florida....

I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this, in Florida can I buy a lot somewhere and live in my motorhome, as long as it is tagged in Florida? I wonder if this would vary county to county?

    Correct
  • Yes, there are RV lots to be purchased in quite a few different. places. If that is the question.

Can you buy a small piece of land just anywhere, and live on it in a RV, then no. You will have to deal with zoning and housing codes, which have become more widespread and more strict over the past 50 years s. I cannot make the same choices my grandfather made when he moved to rural Florida a little more than 100 years ago.

But if you own an RV lot in FL, I can't think of any good reason not to register it there.

A good reason not to register in FL is the high cost of insurance in FL.
  • We have lived in Florida and traveled with Florida as our primary residence for 25 years. We have not found the insurance to be any more expensive just because we live in the state. As a matter of fact, Florida is one of the few states that have some control over insurance rates. State Farm left the state for a period of time because of that, but eventually came back.We have paid more for insurance in some parts of the northeast than we have in Florida. Chuck
  • We haven't switched over our RV insurance yet, but regular vehicle and homeowners insurance is more in Florida than "most" other states. We changed our address from Illinois to Florida recently and our auto rates went up around 30%. Annual registration ended up being a lot cheaper though.
