It also depends on the State that you are purchasing in. California makes you pay their State Tax if you take delivery in California and drive even 1 mile on their roads.
We purchased an RV in California. Had to pay a driver to drive the MH to the Nevada border, hire a Notary in Nevada that processed the paperwork proving that took delivery in Nevada. Then we drove to the nearest RV park and sent all our paperwork and the required paperwork from the State of Wa. plus a Check for the Sales Tax to Washington State with a return overnight envelope and the registration, title, license plates were returned to us and then we were on our way.
Had we Paid the Sales Tax in California, we would not have had to repay it in Washington, but we wanted to keep the tax money in our own State.
So you will need to check with your State and the STate that you are purchasing. California doesn't care where you live. If you take possession, you will pay their tax.
