C Coach with a CRV Toad..?

We got a new one...just in case. Liberty has 88K miles on it and ya cant ever tell wen you get ready to roll out on vacation if everything is A-OK. After all its a 2002 model..

Gonna put a Blue Ox base plate on the CRV and it looks like it matches perfectly with my existing towbar and hardware...sooo.....

Anyone had any major problems towing a CRV? any real blind spots to watch out for or ??

Any pointers in towing this little rice-burner would be appreciated

  • Rather then trying to pull a fuse, have a charge wire installed from the Coach to the CRV, that way the coach alternator will keep the CRV battery charged as you drive. Easy to do, run a wire from the Coach battery, install a self resetting breaker close to the battery, back to the 7 way, run a wire from the 7 way to the CRV battery and install another breaker close to the CRV battery. My 2002 CRV has been towed for 13 years without a dead battery because of the charge wire.
Follow the shifting procedure in the CRV owners manual to a T every day you tow and you should not have a probleem
  • We enjoy our 2012 CRV. Great all around SUV/Crossover and easy to tow. I just pulled a 12V fused line from the coach to the toad battery since I did not want to pull fuses or add switches. Towed it behind the Journey and now the Allure for about 5000 miles with no issues.

Unless you want pain and suffering, let someone else install the base plate. The Blue Ox base plate is really easy to bolt on but getting the plastic face off and on the CRV was a PITA for me. I ended up taking the car to a friend at an auto body shop to tune up my install of the front clip.
  • We are very happy with ours. We installed a switch instead of pulling the fuse from the hard to get at fuse panel. Just follow the owners manual steps and it will follow you every where you go. ENJOY!
  • OK fellas! This one has everything EXCEPT that navigation system cause she didnt want that.....prefers the one she already has..?

So...wait till it gets warm(er) and get the baseplate installed.

    Thanks
  • Sully2, we had a '07 CR-V and now a '13 CR-V. Since both had the navigation system, I had a switch installed to disconect the appropriate fuse. I killed the battery in both cars, the '07 before I had the switch installed and the '13 when I forgot to turn the switch in the off position.

I had never driven a Honda product before and I'm totally sold on them now. In my early years, I had three Nissans which were good cars. My Jeeps were troublesome a new '96 and new '99 Grand Cherokee's (long gone now) so I was hestitant on buying another.

I almost considered a '07 Liberty but they wouldn't come off much on price even though it was changing in '08. So, we went with the newly styled CR-V at the time.

    Happy Trails,
    MM.
  • Sully,

Been towing my 08 CRV since new with no problems. Only tow about 2000 to 3000 miles annually, but just follow directions included in CRV Owners Manual about running the transmission thru gears, turn off all electronic items, including GPS screen, radio, etc. Leave switch in accessory position and you are ready to go.
    Good Luck
