We always camped in a 9'x9' tent, then when we got bigger we upgraded to two tents. We traveled in a 1950 ford sedan and then a 1955 chevy station wagon from Idaho to Colorado, Arizona, Canada, Oregon and even to Disneyland, we always stayed in our tents along the side of the road or in the relatives yard. I only remember staying in an a campground twice, Canada and Las Vegas. Las Vegas was terrible, so hot inside the canvas tent, jets flying over don't know how we even got any sleep but we finally did. The one thing that was so great was lunch, we would eat while Mom or Dad drove. We had bologna and cheese on store bought bread, no salad dressing because Mom thought it would go bad and kill us. Our whole childhood we always had Mom's home made bread and tuna fish sandwiches, so the balloon bread with bologna was a special treat to me. I only remember eating one time in a sit down restaurant, we always cooking on the white gas coleman stove where ever we camped for the nigh. Good times and good memories.
