I learned something from your post! Though it appears Packard's attempt to offer car air conditioning only lasted until 1941. Pretty funny to read about their car AC, which took up half the trunk and cost more than $4000 in today's equivalent dollars.
I took my last un-air conditioned car, a little Datsun, to CA in the summer on the southern route in 1973. Never sweated so much before or since. That luxury became a necessity.
