As the OP mentioned, I think this product would work better if placed on the top of the firewood and then let it melt and drip over the wood underneath.

Absolutely right! When I watched the video, I thought, OMG! What a bad example to show off your product! But it does work very well if you just lay it on the top. In the video, it looks like it was a slightly windy day. Perhaps that butane lighter he had kept blow out. I light all my fires with a propane torch you use for soldering copper pipes with. One click and nothing get's blown out. Once the EZ Lite ignites, it does the rest.
