As an avid hiker, I can and have started a fire from firewood and kindling scavenged off the ground, in the rain, with just a ferrocerium rod (the modern "flint and steel").
That said, I do have a box of Duro fire starters in the MH. Just because I "can" do it the hard way doesn't mean I always want to. :)
Two fire starting aids that work very well in a pinch are dryer lint (catches fire easily with just a spark) and a cotton ball soaked in vaseline (lights easy and burns for a few minutes, plenty long to get some dry kindling burning).
