Campground Safety - Assault in CG Bath House

We all like to think we're safe at our favorite campgrounds, but....

Sadly, this happened at a campground near where we were recently staying:Assault.

Cherrystone is a nice, family-oriented campground with many good reviews.

I'm not sure what kind of shower facilities they have, but wonder if private
shower stall with a LOCKABLE door would have helped the victim avoid this assault.

I hate it when a shower curtain is all there is.

  • That's terrible, Iam sorry to hear this, It will take a long time for her to get over this if ever.
We have a full bath in our trailer and we use it all the time no campground showers for us. When we tent camped we used the CG showers and I stay outside and waited for the kids and the wife than I would go shower.
  • Should be easy to ID. He is the one that has a mark on his face, from the mask being ripped off and missing an eye ball. And by the way, here you are, do a DNA test on his eye ball.

We stayed there this year. It is a nice campground and, yes, they have locking stall doors on the showers. Of course that will not stop someone who would do something like this.
  • . Although, if it's ever needed, I doubt I'd have the presence of mind of grab it and use it.

Then I'd highly suggest you get rid of it before it's used on you. One should not carry a weapon of ANY sort unless one is undeniably ready to use it.

Sad state of affairs when even taking a shower becomes a risk.
  • I did not read where the story described a shower curtain or stall door with latch? In a situation like this, I do not see where it would make a difference.

Early morning hour......lack of witness......crime of opportunity !

As stated above, use the Buddy system ladies!

I don't know about you, Dear Biscuit, but personally I don't take a shower at my local department store, supermarket or Wal-Mart and I (usually) don't make a habit of walking down the street unclothed...at least not in my own neighborhood ;)

Not to make light of the assault victim's situation, of course. A person taking a shower at a CG bathroom is so much MORE vulnerable due to their state of undress.

Many department stores (Kohl's, Penney's) have done away with the curtains in favor of lockable doors on their dressing rooms. I wish campground owners would do the same instead of having a just flimsy shower curtain.

And I always list whether there's a lockable door or just shower curtain or in my CG reviews, although that's probably not important to everyone.

The buddy system is a great idea although it isn't always do-able.

After a "peeping incident" at a CoE CG, G-half gave me a pink canister of Mace that has a permanent spot in my shower bag. Although, if it's ever needed, I doubt I'd have the presence of mind of grab it and use it.

These kind of assaults are 'opportunistic'.

One needs to be aware. Sad but true. These low life cretins are out there.
  • That's terrible. This is why we always use the buddy system where the facilities are concerned.
