I guess I have a slightly different take on this: If I want privacy, I'll stay in a hotel. When I camp, I'm outdoors, and invariably interacting with my fellow campers. 95% of the time, everyone gives everyone else some "space" (in many parks, that space is incredibly small) - but once in a while, something from one site might spill into MY site; and within reason, I'm OK with that. I've met some really great people this way; and my grandkids have made new-found friends. Maybe we've just been lucky and only encountered people who have been considerate and welcoming, too?
