Camping Grill Recommendations

Looking for some recommendations on portable camping grills. We are looking for a self standing unit. I'm not really liking the weber one available. I understand their quality is worth it but I just don't like it. I recently found a brand called stok at home depot.

I really dont care about the inset capability as ill probably never use it. However it's reviews make me think it may be a good grill. Just looking for a decent quality grill for a decent price. I will be converting any of these to run off a quick connect from the outdoor kitchen.

  • Something you can use natural briquettes or lump on - far better results than propane. I use a kamado style cooker/smoker at home but that's just not practical for camping, so for that I use a charcoal Weber.

Since the Weber Q is likely the most popular grill many of us use for camping inquiring minds would ask - what's your objection to a Q? :h

I've never heard either of that STOK you linked to but it sure looks much like a Coleman Roadtrip.
  • While not full height self standing I recently bought a Cuisinart CGG-522 Dual blaze grill. It has flip over locking legs that allow it to be used on a typical folding camping table. It includes a lid thermometer as well as separate left and right burners each with built in piezo lighters, and a good heavy duty grate.

There are a couple of negatives though, there is no carrying handle so it is a bit awkward to move with the legs folded up and pigtail hose is fairly short and mates to a 20 pound propane tank, not the little disposable cylinders, so in my case I had to add an adapter commonly called a steak saver adapter to my Extend-a-stay hose to get it to work.

Weber Baby Q. Wish it had a thermostat, maybe the new ones do.

X2 Awesome portable grill, had our for at least 12 years and still going strong.

  • My .02 cents worth. I normally use a smoker these days. However right next to my Smoker is a 22 year old Weber grill that just won't die and I can still get parts for it. I also have one of the early Weber Q100s for our RV. Is it perfect? Nah but for 95 percent of the BBQing we do camping it does great. The reason I would still recommend the Weber is parts availability.

I've never heard of STOK Gridiron, when I look at Amazon I don't see very many reviews for it compared to the Weber or the Coleman. Your call I'd be more inclined to look at the Coleman or Weber.
