Looking for a little advice. Had to leave my RV at Camping World in Albuquerque for some repairs (big slide wouldn't extend). Was told it was going to take a while to get the parts. We are full time with no S&B but luckily we had some relatives approx. 200 miles away that we could stay with. Stuffed what we could in the toad and entrusted our home to Camping World.When we got our RV back we discovered that all our camera/video equipment and guitar were missing. We reached out to Camping World to let them know about this and all they told us was that they are not liable. Funny side note, they also told us that they had no service techs that played guitar so it couldn't have been them.My question is what does everybody do with their stuff when they have to get their RV repaired? Do you unload the entire RV and put it all in storage?Also what action should I take against Camping World. Seriously all they would say is that they are not liable. They didn't care that stuff was missing. There was seriously not a single concern on their part that anything was missing other than me understanding that they are not liable. THIS IS NOT ME. PULLED IT OFF OF Facebook "LIVING THE RV DREAM" PAGE.

Most RV service firms have a similar policy, if this policy would actually get them off in a court test may be another questions

Unfortunately......they will not be liable.We FT'd.......rig was in for repairs at factory for 3 days. and several yrs later in for 3 days of repairs at an independent shop.Both times.....we took all personal valuables & important papers. Everything else stayed in 5vr.If anything HAD come up missing.....that's what I carried 'full coverage home owners insurance policy' for. As a FTnr......should have an insurance policy on your 'home' just like one that you should have/had on your S&B House.

I'd say that You have pretty much taken all the action that You can take and that the issue of liability as stated by Camping World is what it is!Not what You or anyone in Your position ever wants to hear!The World has changed into a Not Such a Nice Place as it used to be!

I agree not the same world it pisses me off that CW let this******happen I enjoy shopping there but I dont know if I would ever take my 5th wheel there for service again after my experience and reading others. I would think they would want to nip this quickly and do some back ground checks on employees but you cant get cheap help then I guess

File a police report and hopefully they do an investigation and interview all the employees (hopefully). Insurance from CW should be contacted as well as your own. Whether they are not liable or not, there was a theft on their property and they must have insurance.

You ever read a warranty? "You may have other rights which vary from state to state". Well that line applies here as well.

MOST shops have a "We are not liable" sign.. and depending on the laws where the shop is parked... That may, or may not, be true... Some states when you turn a vehicle or other item over to a shop, the shop has responsibility. And is thus liable for any damage that occurs while it is in their custody.

So seek professional help. That is the only advice I can give, since I know not the law where you dropped it off.

Oh, and seek a better shop for your next repair.

Oh, and one other thought: Your insurance company may be willing to make you whole and then they can go after whomever is liable.. But you need to contact them for that.

I think they should be responsible whether they have a sign or not. It is their responsibility to ther customer to keep the property properly secured.

those are big items ,seem to me CW has camera,s all over the place ,it should be on film.

I'm not an attorney, but I did stay at s Holiday inn express one time. As I understand they have to take ordinary care while they have your property. I would call the police and file a report. If your lucky they will admit that the vehicle wasn't locked and that would be enough to win a small claims case.

A. You can't blame Camping World, all car and RV dealers say the same thing.

B. As a guitar player (1957 Guild) and camera bug (Minolta T3i), I can't imagine leaving them in my RV in ANY service facility. Even overnight.

Sorry, this ones on you. IMHO.

You are trying to prove someone at CW stole your items and they will make you prove the items were in your RV. Did you take a employee out to the RV and inventory the items in the RV? Make a list and have the employee sign the list? Do you have receipts showing proof of purchase? Be sure you can answer those questions before hiring a lawyer and being out his fee along with the merchandise.

Read your contract and see if you were allowed to leave valuable items within it. If they said to remove 'em it's on you.

I really don't think a lawyer is needed in this instance.
Everyone is responsible to take "reasonable care" as far as the law is concerned and this doesn't change from one state to the other although some locales have a looser interpretation than others. This is why many contracts specifically require you remove your personal belongings.

I'd make a report to the local police dept and turn the whole thing over to my insurance company. The ins. co. will probably want the police report anyway.

Too many arm chair lawyers here!

It all depends on the state law applicable in this situation. They may be liable and the may not be liable. Just because they say they are not liable or have a sign that says that doesn't necessarily make it so. You should be able to find an attorney who will give 15 minutes of free advice in the hopes of getting the case. Only an attorney with consumer law experience in that state can give you real, useful advice.

First question.....was there any sign of forced entry? if there was then it was literally broken into. if it was left open or accessed with keys then I would lay it on them regardless of what the sign says. the sign is there to try and get people out the door and hopefully they won`t go after them!

Ask a lawyer a few questions on this.
